If you have never sourced in China, here are 4 points to remind!
1. About the delivery date:
If you want to receive the product on time, you need to start the purchase plan at least 1 month in advance, because the delivery time of the goods is long. (The specific time depends on different countries and transportation methods)
In addition to the long transportation time, there may be other irresistible factors,
For example, because of the time difference, the communication time is prolonged.
The manufacturer does not have enough stock, takes time to produce, etc.
In short, if you need to purchase in China, you must start the purchase plan in advance.
2. About international express:
International express delivery: refers to the express delivery and logistics business carried out between two or more countries (or regions).
After the international express shipment arrives at the destination country, it needs to be delivered in the destination country before the express shipment can be delivered to the final destination.
International express parcel delivery is fast and the service is excellent, but the price is relatively high. Common logistics carriers include UPS, DHL Express, FedEx, etc.
The common modes of transportation in international logistics are: air transportation, sea transportation and international express.
3. About shipping costs
- The supplier provides you with a freight forwarder
Provide the receiving address, the supplier will find a freight forwarder for you, and provide a quotation for the transportation cost. If the goods are lost or damaged during transportation, the supplier and the forwarder provided by him will be responsible.
- Own freight forwarder in China
Provide the address of the freight forwarder in China, and the supplier will send the goods to the designated location.
- Find a freight forwarder yourself
Do a Google search for freight forwarders, or try platforms like Freightos or Flexport to find them. If the goods are lost or damaged during transportation, it will be borne by yourself/forwarder.
It is best to ask someone you trust to recommend a reliable freight forwarder, because there are tens of thousands of freight forwarders around the world. They can be a company or just a person working from home. It can be difficult to determine who is trustworthy. A common trick is to quote you low shipping rates to begin with, then inflate the dimensions of your shipment or charge you extra when you pick it up.
4.Quotation about shipping cost (Basic Incoterms)
Incoterms define the responsibilities between buyer and seller regarding how to deliver a product.
When you ask Chinese suppliers for product prices, tell them which trade term they should base it on. Otherwise, you will face unexpected additional costs.
Here is a brief introduction to the 5 most commonly used Incoterms: ExW, FOB, CIF, DDU and DDP.
