Today we’ll talk about How To Choose RJ45 connector,
RJ45 network connectors are widely used in aviation, military equipment, industry and other fields.
1.When choosing an RJ45 connector, the primary reference factor is ‘electrical parameters’
2.The second thing to consider is the rated voltage, also known as the working voltage
It is mainly influenced by the insulating material used in the connector and the size of the contact pitch. If some components are installed below their rated voltage, not all of their functions may be fully utilised. Therefore, this factor should also be considered when selecting products.
3.Then there is the withstand voltage index of the RJ45 connector, that is, the electric strength index, which is one of the factors that must be considered
For the same withstand voltage index, if the environment and safety requirements are different, the maximum working voltage will also be different. Therefore, even if a reasonable rated voltage is selected according to the environment and safety level, the withstand voltage index must also be considered when determining the rated voltage, to determine the highest value of the rated voltage
4.Finally, to ensure reliability and reduce the error below, the rated current must be considered in addition to the rated voltage.
Under normal circumstances, the RJ45 connector can be used normally when the current is less than the rated current. However, in order to meet the rated current requirements, the thermal design of the RJ45 connector is used in the design process. When current flows through the contact pair, there will be conductor resistance and contact resistance, and the contact pair will generate heat. If the heat generated by the contact pair exceeds a certain limit, it will destroy its insulation and form a contact to soften the surface coating, causing failure.
To reduce such failures, the rated current must be limited so that the internal temperature rise does not exceed the value specified in the design.
