Solar connectors are used to connect solar panels to other panels, batteries and junction boxes. The most common type of solar connector is the MC4 connector, a standardised single pole connector that has built in strain relief and interlocks.
Branch Connectors are available to assist the connection of solar panels in parallel or series, for example linking multiple panels to a single battery for increased power.
The solar panel connectors are available in male and female types made to snap together. Connectors are of various types, the major ones being MC3, MC4, PV and Tyco Solarlok. Similarly, they come in many shapes such as T-Joint, U-Joint, X-Joint or Y-Joint. The most common type of solar connector is the MC4 connector.
Properly connecting or wiring a solar installation for several PV modules can be done when using the right components and if you know the basics about it. The first thing you need to learn is that for common connectors like the MC4, the female connector is the positive lead and the male is the negative one.
Installing PV modules in series will increase the output voltage while keeping solar charge controller, depending on your system.
When the solar panels are plugged in parallel, they will increase the electrical current while maintaining the output voltage. For parallel installations, you have to connect positive leads between each other, the same applies for the negative ones. In order to do this you have to use an MC4 branch connector that allows you to connect several leads together. You can install two branches with a 2-way MC4 branch connector, three branches with a 3-way MC4 branch connector, and so on.
